The Eagle's Nest II represents Star Fleet's most sophisticated achievement in Quadrant Intelligence systems design. Pursuant to Starfleet Exploration Directive 902.3, the following objectives have been established for the Listening Post Development Project:

Provide a stable platform for a wide range of ongoing intelligence research prjects. Provide autonomous capability for full execution of Federation policy options in the Quadrant. Provide a credible, sustainable, independent forward presence and conventional deterrence in peacetime. Operate as the cornerstone of joint/allied Sector expeditionary forces in times of crisis. Operate and support fighter attacks on enemies, protect friendly forces and engage in sustained independent operations in war. Scan the surrounding systems for invaders, travelers, and other unknowns. Maintain a constant watch for the mother base, Star Base Horizon and the surrounding system. Eagle's Nest is fully capable of its own defense and maintainance. There are Phaser Cannons, shuttles, escape pods, and one workbee at the station's disposal.
